CPC launches new CLEO Leadership Academy.

Dear John,

If you are one of the many newly-elected local officials in California that is personally committed to advancing the prosperity of Californians along with financial sustainability in government, you might find yourself feeling like an army of one.

That's why we're thrilled to announce that CPC's California Local Elected Officials (CLEO) has released a new Leadership Academy, a virtual training and certification program on the principles and practice of good governance for local elected officials.

Too often, local governments are stacked with bureaucrats and government staff that protect the status quo and capitulate to the demands of government unions — bankrupting our communities, stifling small businesses and rubber-stamping woke ideas.

So we've spent the last year developing an in-depth curriculum for newly-elected and long-serving local officials and school board members on the ABCs of governing that prioritizes liberty, transparency and accountability.

The CLEO Leadership Academy curriculum consists of 15 self-paced modules on the fundamentals of good governance that are taught by experienced elected officials, municipal staff, public policy experts and attorneys.

Featured instructors include Mari Barke, CLEO director and Trustee on the Orange County Board of Education; Lance Christensen, Vice President of Education Policy and Government Affairs at CPC and former candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction; Congressman-elect Kevin Kiley; former state Senator John Moorlach, City Councilmember Will O’Neill, and many more. Topics include:
  • First Principles & Constitutional Governance
  • Powers, Authorities & Duties of Local Elected Officials
  • Open Government Laws
  • Transparency & Accountability
  • Understanding Public Sector Unions & Employees’ Janus Rights
  • Municipal Financing, Taxes, Fees, Bonds & Liabilities
  • Infrastructure, Housing & Property Rights
  • Public Safety
  • School Choice

Pete Peterson, Dean of Pepperdine University's School of Public Policy and one of California’s foremost experts in public policy and local governments, consulted on the project and has endorsed the curriculum:

"California Policy Center continues to provide expert insights and mentoring on issues of good governance. The state is better served when local elected officials can participate in a training program that is accessible, thoughtful and relevant in their commitment to delivering the best public service for taxpayers. By combining foundational courses on the US Constitution with skill-based seminars on campaigning, CLEO's Leadership Academy training does just that and I encourage those with public responsibilities to avail themselves of this course."

At CPC, we're helping liberty-loving local elected officials stand up for California's future by providing the tools and the support they need to govern effectively. We're also helping to "build the bench" of the next generation of California's leaders dedicated to freedom and prosperity for all.

The CLEO Leadership Academy is free to CLEO members with the Promo Code: CPCFREE. Learn more at calelecteds.org.

Radio Free California #255: How to Care for Your Unicorn

On this week's podcast with CPC president Will Swaim and CPC board member David Bahnsen: A new video shows highlights of the fight between an activist and an L.A. councilmember who participated in a recorded racist beatdown. And California’s largest government union is melting down. Listen now.

Do you remember what California was like when it was truly Golden? It was a place where people came from all over the world to realize their vision of the American Dream.

Look around today, as 2022 shuffles off the stage, and what do we see? Homeless encampments. Schools suffocated by the mediocrity machine known as the teachers’ union. Criminals unpunished while law-abiding Californians are bullied by an obscenely expensive (and expansive) Nanny State.

These and many more problems are why so many are asking:

Is California a lost cause?

Not while people like you support the California Policy Center’s work to advance education reform, workplace freedom and honest constitutional government in the Golden State.

California Policy Center was founded a decade ago to restore the California Dream so that people of any background can find a place to exercise their talent, energy and ingenuity.

As this year comes to an end, will you support CPC by making a tax-deductible gift of $50, $100, or even $250 or more today?

It's time to Take Back California.
I'm In! Let's Take Back California!
