Hi, We want Trump’s Postmaster General Louis DeJoy out. Only the USPS Board of Governors has the power to fire DeJoy, and only President Biden has the power to nominate Board Governors. With two vacancies on the Postal Board, Biden has the opportunity to change the balance of the board so we can finally fire Louis DeJoy. President Biden needs to act. The Save the Post Office campaign has named two alternatives we can rely on to steer a public service Postal Service: Rep. Brenda Lawrence and civil society advocate Sarah Anderson. These nominees are endorsed by 300 labor and public-interest groups—all President Biden needs to do is to nominate them.1 The situation at the USPS is dire, with DeJoy trying to slash USPS operations by cutting positions, hiking postage rates, and shuttering post offices around the country.2 DeJoy’s assault on USPS personnel harms Black Americans, who make up a significant portion of our postal workforce,3 as well as rural and older Americans, who rely on USPS for communication, goods, and to deliver life-saving medications. A federal judge recently ruled that DeJoy tanked the delivery of ballots in the 2020 election by making changes to mail delivery just before the election.4 We still have Trump appointees on the Postal Board of Governors and Trump appointee Louis DeJoy at the helm. To turn the USPS around, we need new nominees to the Board who will challenge DeJoy; invest in a union-made, electric postal fleet; ensure postal jobs remain good union jobs; and expand USPS public service even further by looking into offering banking services, internet access, and more.5 Thanks for taking action, Izzi and the team at Demand Progress Sources:
