#LowcountryFirst Pass In Review | December 16, 2022 CALLING OUT HYPOCRISY Good afternoon and happy holidays! It’s the most wonderful time of the year for family, friends, and calling out hypocrisy in Washington. Earlier this week, we participated in a hearing on the Oversight Committee concerning violent online rhetoric and the threat it poses to politicians and elected officials. Our office is no stranger to these types of threats, and violence against politicians knows no party lines. During the hearing, one of the witnesses who was a self-proclaimed online security expert explained her belief in the risks of violent online rhetoric. We proceeded to show her one of her own tweets calling for violence against supreme court justices. At this point, the hearing was effectively over. Watch the entire exchange here as we call out this ridiculous hypocrisy. On Monday, we passed a bill on the house floor to name the post office located at 213 William Hilton Parkway after Caesar H Wright Jr. Mr. Wright was a part of the fabric of Hilton Head and served as the first black postman on the island. His time at the postal service goes back to the days of sandy roads and a quiet coastal community. We honor Mr. Wright with the renaming of this post office and continue to celebrate Hilton Head’s rich history and Mr. Wright's decades of service to the community. On Tuesday, we passed a second bill on the house floor. This brings the total to two bills in the same week! The legislation is called the Quantum Cybersecurity Preparedness Act and was a bipartisan effort along with Rep. Ro Khanna. Cybersecurity is national security. After 11 federal agencies were hacked by agents of Russia and China in 2020, we must do all we can to strengthen and protect our nation’s systems and keep our data secure. Congress will now receive an annual report on the federal government’s strategy for facing post-quantum cybersecurity threats. This important legislation will now head to the president’s desk to be signed into law. On Wednesday, we were forced to vote on a continuing resolution to keep the government funded for a few more days. This legislation does nothing to balance the budget and is another example of continued wasteful spending in Washington. We will not support spending plans which fail to address our spending problem. We are looking forward to a fun-filled weekend in the Lowcountry and the start to the holidays. It’s also the start of Hanukkah this weekend for all who observe - happy Hanukkah and Chag Sameach! As an update, our Charleston office is changing locations. We will no longer be in West Ashely, but we are moving to 652 Coleman Blvd. in Mt. Pleasant. Also, our DC office is changing locations.
