Nothing prepares you to see your child totally reliant on a machine
for survival. But that's what happened to my daughter, Genesis.
When she was born she seemed like a typical, healthy baby. But when
Genesis was 6 months old, her pediatrician noticed that her heart
sounded strange. The doctor diagnosed her with a heart murmur and
referred us to a cardiologist at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
I can't really describe how it felt to have the specialists there tell
us that our 6-month-old's heart was failing. But if you have a child
in your life who means everything to you, then you might be able to
imagine how it feels.
That's why I'm reaching out to you today-because at the darkest
moment of our lives, Children's Hospital Los Angeles was there for us.
And I need your help to make sure they can be there for the next
family that is getting the scariest news of their lives.

It was a long, scary road, but we had amazing support at every step.
Children's Hospital Los Angeles is one of the top hospitals for
pediatric heart care in the United States, and while we didn't want
our daughter to be sick, we knew we were in the best possible place
for her to get well.
From specialists at the top of their field, to nurses who made it
their mission to keep our daughter's spirits up, to a medical team
that checked in with us regularly to see if we were OK with how our
daughter's care was progressing, every person on her care team shared
expertise and compassion that made the months Genesis spent waiting
for a new heart less scary.
Genesis finally got a new heart. Now she can go back to just being a
kid. And I want every kid to have that opportunity.
