** Biden signs the Respect for Marriage Act
------------------------------------------------------------

On Tuesday, President Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act (RMA) into law. Brad Sears, Founding Executive Director at the Williams Institute, was at the White House for the signing of the legislation, which overturns the Defense of Marriage Act and provides protections to same-sex families. He said, "Congress and the President made history, supporting marriage equality and rejecting the erosion of fundamental rights by the Court. The RMA is both an incredible victory and a reminder of the work we still have to do.”

** New collaboration with NORC at the University of Chicago
------------------------------------------------------------
A new report from NORC at the University of Chicago ([link removed]) finds that many U.S. adults oppose discrimination against LGBTQ people based on religious exemptions, including refusing medical care to LGBTQ people, refusing to hire LGBTQ people, and denying services to LGBTQ people. The Williams Institute collaborated with NORC on the underlying survey and will be releasing a series of white papers with further results in the spring.
