Friend,
America prides itself on compassion, hard work, unity, and freedom. But our current immigration system doesn’t reflect these values.
I said it on the debate stage last month, and I’ll say it again: Donald Trump isn’t against immigration — he’s against immigration by non-white people. And although his policies have intensified the xenophobic atmosphere we are living in, immigrants were being vilified in this country long before he assumed office.
This has to change. We need to heal from the unjust, violent approach to immigration we’ve taken in the past. We must offer everyone seeking a new opportunity here the chance to thrive. I hope you’ll read through the immigration plan I’ve just released — in it, I lay out how I will work to protect vulnerable immigrant communities, and ensure that those displaced by climate disasters have a home here.
