Unfortunately, there’s this thing called Citizens United -- Which is part of the reason why our elections are getting so incredibly expensive (and why I have to send emails like these asking for $5 or more).
Outside groups will spend millions to defeat me. So if I’m going to compete and defend my seat, my team pushes me to do this thing called call time.
And I’ll be brutally honest with you: It sucks.
I spend hours on the phone trying to fundraise when what I really want to be doing is speaking with parents in Darien and engineers in Lombard about what steps our country needs to take to address the climate crisis.
I mean, if I’m going to be on the phone for hours at a time, I would much prefer to be speaking with scientists and community leaders so we can have the critical conversations that will result in meaningful action.
That’s why I’m reaching out to you. If each of you donated $5 or more to this email, my team would have fundraising squared away and I could fully devote my time to my work in Congress (and NOT have to spend countless hours on the phone fundraising!).
