Litwak, Senior Vice President and Director of International Security Studies at the Wilson Center, writes that while this week’s major developments “heighten the risk of an escalatory spiral, they do not alter the fundamental structure of the crisis in which post-revolutionary Iran and the United States have been locked over the last four decades.”
