BBC honours Heidi Crowter as one of its ‘100 Women of 2022’ ()
Heidi Crowter (http://)

The BBC has named human rights campaigner and pro-life advocate Heidi Crowter among its ‘100 Women of 2022’.

Heidi has worked tirelessly in recent years to challenge England’s discriminatory abortion law which permits abortion up to 24 weeks, but allows unborn babies with a disability, including babies with Down’s syndrome to be aborted up to birth.

It’s nice to see the BBC acknowledging the tremendous work she has been doing. Heidi, who herself has Down’s syndrome, is involved in an ongoing legal challenge to the abortion law in the UK. At present, with her legal representatives, she is considering seeking permission for her case against the UK government to be taken to the Supreme Court.

Heidi is in very good company in receiving recognition from the BBC for her work! In 2014, Cora Sherlock was named by the BBC as one of its “100 inspiring and influential women from around the world” for her committed pro-life advocacy.
Bríd Smith's new abortion bill would make horrific late-term abortions legal on request ()
Deputy Bríd Smith TD (http://)
Yesterday, Bríd Smith TD on behalf of People Before Profit/Solidarity introduced an abortion bill in the Dáil that if passed would make horrific late term abortions legal on request.

In a statement, the Pro Life Campaign described the bill as an 'appalling and retrograde' step.

It's hard to fathom how Deputy Bríd Smith and others want to open the door to more abortions when abortion is already widely available in Ireland since 2019. With over 21,000 abortions since the law changed, representing an over 70% increase in just three years, our public representatives should be focusing on positive supports for women in unplanned pregnancy rather than more abortion.

It is truly barbaric to be proposing the decriminalisation of late term abortion knowing how developed the unborn baby is at this stage of development and the scientific evidence showing that unborn babies can even feel pain at that stage.

Bríd Smith’s bill is similar to what the National Women’s Council and others have called for as part of the Three Year Review of the abortion law. The entrenched and indifferent way today’s political class seek to strip innocent defenceless unborn babies of their right to exist is truly frightening to behold.
Kentucky Abortions Drop to 0, according to state’s Cabinet for Health and Family Services ()

The abortion ban in the U.S. state of Kentucky is producing the result that was intended. According to LifeNews, Kentucky’s Cabinet for Health and Family Services has reported that the state was abortion-free in August and September, down from several hundred abortions per month earlier in the year.

The collapse in abortions taking place in the state follows an August 1 order by a state appeals court to reinstate the commonwealth’s “trigger” law, which banned elective abortion after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade at the end of June this year.

The very welcome news follows other reports of a significant drop in the number of abortions taking place in the US since the Supreme Court decision.

According to the group #WeCount, there were at least 10,000 fewer abortions carried out in the U.S. in the two months after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022.

#WeCount has close ties to the pro-abortion movement but the figures it compiled are at least worthy of consideration. They recorded the dramatic decrease in abortions in states that have introduced bans or restrictions on abortion and document the increase in abortions in States like Minnesota and Illinois, where women from neighbouring states appear to be travelling to access abortions.

Taking everything into account, the group that compiled the figures estimate that 10,570 fewer abortions took place in the U.S. between July and August than would typically occur year on year during these two months.

The drop in the number of abortions taking place since the Dobbs decision in June shows that pro-life laws save lives. Ireland proved this to be the case prior to repeal and now the same is happening in the U.S. It’s why we must keep pushing for step by step changes in this country, including insisting on positive alternatives to abortion being prioritised in ad campaigns instead of the incessant promotion of abortion that’s currently happening.
