Jack, the media layoffs keep coming. This week the Washington Post announced cuts in its workforce, which comes on the heels of CNN, Buzzfeed and Vox also announcing layoffs.

Media outlets like the Washington Post, CNN, Vox, and Buzzfeed are vulnerable to the swings of the economy because of their reliance on advertising. Thankfully, Daily Kos' business model is different from those other news media outlets. We don't rely soley on advertising to meet our budget needs. For years now, donations from our readers and activists have accounted for nearly half of our revenue.

That doesn't mean that budgets haven't been tight at Daily Kos. Unfortunately, over the past year, it's been harder and harder for us to meet our fundraising goals. As more progressive organizations flood the space, we have had to compete for those grassroots dollars.

It's vital that we meet our fundraising goals so we can continue to deliver the quality of work you have come to trust. Daily Kos needs to raise $49,934 by the end of the year. Please support our work by making a donation of $5 today.
