I have some huge news to share with you today, folks:

President Biden just signed my bill, the Respect for Marriage Act, into law!

This day marks the culmination of decades of hard work by millions of activists.

Today, couples across the country can breathe a little easier knowing that their marriage is respected and recognized nationwide. I’ve heard from so many people about how meaningful this legislation is for them and their loved ones.

Since Wisconsinites first elected me to Congress, I’ve fought my heart out to make strides toward equality every single day. Some days are harder than others — seeing Republican-led state legislatures pass harmful legislation targeting the LGBTQ community across the country and hearing out-of-touch comments from politicians about same-sex couples are stark reminders of how much work is still ahead of us.

But on days like this, when we get one step closer to full equality for the LGBTQ community, I’m so proud to celebrate the incredible progress we’ve made.

I want to thank you for having my back all this time. Whether you donated to our campaign, signed your name on our petitions, or even just opened our emails to stay up to date on our work, I’m not exaggerating when I say this moment wouldn’t have been possible without you.

Today, we celebrate, but tomorrow I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get right back to work. It’s not lost on me that 36 of my Republican colleagues voted against this bill, including Republican leader Mitch McConnell. If we’re going to continue making the progress that the American people are counting on, we can’t let McConnell reclaim the gavel.
