The United States has underproduced housing by millions of homes in recent decades, driving up prices and pushing people out of their neighborhoods. Tens of millions of Americans struggle to keep a roof over their heads due to these extreme prices, and recent inflation rates have only made it worse.
The impacts of the housing shortage and affordability crisis only become more urgent as more and more people fall into housing insecurity and homelessness, especially during the holiday season when the weather is colder.
Congress has begun a “lame-duck” session, which is a short period of time for them to address urgent or unfinished business before the end of the year. Housing is an urgent issue and we must address it now.
By not taking urgent, bold action on housing, Congress is standing by while more and more people fall into homelessness and housing instability. It’s time to stop the cycle and pass laws that ensure everyone has access to a stable, affordable home.
Tell Congress to pass bold, innovative housing laws now. Tell them we need homes for the holidays.
