Dear John,
I’m Ryan Hill, the Fraser Institute’s Associate Director of Education Programs.
If you’re not a student, journalist or teacher, you can be forgiven if you weren’t aware that the Fraser Institute even had an Education Programs department – we often fly under the radar.
But Education Programs might be the most influential department at the Fraser Institute!
Throughout the year, we hold seminars for high school students, post-secondary students, teachers, and journalists, where we teach attendees about things they likely won’t hear about anywhere else: the importance of economics, free markets, and individual choice.
I’m happy to report that this year we were able to begin holding these seminars in person again!
And I’m even happier to report that in 2022 our sessions impacted over 64,000 teachers, students, and journalists across the country - a new record!
Some of our impressive guest lecturers this year included Swedish author Johan Norberg on how freedom to explore and exchange has led to stunning achievements; author Alex Epstein, on why human flourishing requires more oil, coal, and natural gas; Michael Shellenberger, on why environmental alarmism hurts us all; and Wall Street Journal editorial board member Jason Riley, on Thomas Sowell’s legacy.
In addition to these seminars, we provide economic education teaching kits to teachers with resources and lessons to better support and extend students' learning.
We have student essay contests with cash prizes; a student internship program; and even an annual student leaders colloquium that focuses on complex economic policy issues.
As a result of our efforts, we have created a vast network of supporters right across Canada. Our attendees often remain in contact with us throughout their careers, turning to us for answers on new challenges they face, and guiding new people into our programs!
All these efforts are supported by our small but mighty team here at the Fraser offices.
Perhaps best of all John, we offer all of these courses and materials for free.
Because we don’t accept government funding in order to maintain our independence and objectivity, we rely on supporters like you to fund our entire operation.
If you’re able to, would you consider making a donation today [[link removed][campaignid]]?
With your help, we’ll be able to continue educating the next generation of Canadians about the importance of free markets, entrepreneurship, and individual choice!
Thank you so much for your support.
Sincerely,
Ryan Hill
