Friend — this past summer, after
years of campaigning, we passed the Inflation Reduction Act — by far the most important action Congress has
ever taken to address climate change.
There is now a serious problem: the agencies in charge of implementing the historic investments continue to be underfunded, and as things stand there are only a few days to go before members of Congress head home for the holidays.
The House and Senate haven’t adequately funded climate programs and agencies like the EPA yet.
These funding bills HAVE to pass now. We only have a few working days left where there is an environmental majority in the House, and Republican House leader Kevin McCarthy has already threatened to try to hamstring climate programs and investments when the next Congress takes office in January.
LCV is gearing up for a
massive budget fight over the next week. We’re driving grassroots petitions from environmentalists into congressional offices and campaigning to prevent anti-environmental legislators from sneaking harmful provisions into a final budget deal.
We need your help:
Make an urgent year-end contribution to LCV. Help power our fight to protect climate action. We need to raise $25,000 to make our voice heard on Capitol Hill. Please make a gift today — even $5 helps.
Our opponents are hoping to use this lame duck period to sneak their anti-environmental agenda through Congress. For example,
corporate polluters are calling for sweeping changes to federal environmental protections that give citizens the right to review and provide input on projects that could harm the health and safety of their local environment.
Unless we act fast, these and other anti-environmental provisions could become law. We need your help to make our voices heard and ensure long-term funding for implementing climate action.
There’s more — the budget battle is just first on Congress’s to-do list this month. There are also a large number of judicial and federal agency nominees awaiting Senate approval, including pro-climate judges who will be incredibly important as Trump’s extremist judges continue their assault on long-standing environmental precedents and our fragile democracy.
If we don’t confirm these nominees now, the process will start over from scratch when the next Congress is sworn in. With critical environmental decisions made by federal courts every day and judges who serve for life, we have no time to waste. The Senate must act on these nominees now.
Help power our campaign to protect climate programs and confirm key nominees this month. We need your support — if everyone reading this email made a gift as small as $5, we’d blow through our $25,000 goal in minutes. Please give now.
On Election Day, our movement proved one thing: when we fight, we win. But we still have key fights before we close out the year. I hope you’ll join us and protect climate action today.
Thank you for everything you do. I hope you’re doing well as we head into this busy holiday season.
Onward,
Gene Karpinski
