Get Ready for Governor Holcomb's
State of the State Address

Looking Back on 2018

Good afternoon!

Governor Holcomb’s fourth State of the State Address is right around the corner (this Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET)! In the days leading up to it, we’re taking a look at Eric’s previous State of the State speeches to see how he’s delivered on the bold vision he’s laid out. Here are some examples of Governor Holcomb Putting People First in his 2018 State of the State Address.

Governor Holcomb’s 2018 State of the State Address: January 9, 2018

Goal: “(In 2017) we beat the 2012 record and secured nearly 300 business commitments that will lead to the creation of over 30,000 new jobs… so I’ve challenged the good people at the Indiana Economic Development Corporation to do it again in 2018!” Goal: “We must ensure that every Hoosier student receives an education infused with STEM subjects, critical thinking skills and the intellectual curiosity that prepares them for lifelong learning.” Goal: “Strengthening our workforce will be one of the most important things we’ve ever undertaken. It’s going to take a long-term commitment and an all-in approach among many stakeholders in every community.” Goal: “We’re clarifying the sales tax exempt status on software as a service.” Goal: “We’re moving forward to require Indiana physicians to use INSPECT before ever issuing the first prescription.”
  • Result: Bill to require INSPECT system check signed by governor, which is critical to helping physicians combat the drug epidemic.
Goal: “We’ll seek to increase the number of opioid treatment locations from 18 to 27.” Goal: “Tonight I’m setting a goal to become the best state in the Midwest for infant mortality rates by 2024.”
Goal: “I met with students from Cumberland Elementary School… who have spearheaded the push for several years to adopt the Say’s Firefly as our official state insect… This is a great way for young students to be involved in the civic process…and I’m taking up their cause this year…”
The above represents just a sampling of what Governor Holcomb promised and delivered in his State of the State speech in 2018. You can read and view the entire 2018 address at this link. On Monday, we’ll look back at Governor Holcomb’s 2019 State of the State address.
