Hi John,
As we head into the holiday season, I want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays! It’s the time of year for family, friends, faith and lots of food. I hope you’re taking a break and enjoying the season.
I also want to thank you for all that you’ve done in this effort we call MAGA the Good. It was your time, your effort and your dollars that powered this movement.
Together, in 2022, we sent fellow Texans +60K postcards. We texted +150K first-time voters, and helped 2,400 citizens get registered to vote. With our billboards and videos, Mothers Against Greg Abbott reached tens of millions of people—all across the country.
And in the weeks leading to the midterms, our volunteers texted more than 2.3M Texans to get out the vote.
We might not have gotten the statewide results we wanted, but our team made great things happen. I’m so proud of all of us—I hope you are too.
I want you to know that 2022 was just our beginning. We held a strategy session earlier this month and we’re already gearing up for the 2023 Legislative session. We’re filing the paperwork so we can engage in the 2024 Senate race as a federal PAC and we’ll be taking on Ted Cruz. He’s the wrong Senator for Texas families, and mothers and others like us are going to force him into an early retirement. I hope you continue to power our movement. ([link removed])

** #1 in 2022 According to Progress Texas
------------------------------------------------------------
Every year for the past 10 years, Progress Texas ([link removed]) names the best and worst Texans. Thanks to you—this year, our group was named Best Texan!
Here’s what Progress Texas had to say: #1 Best: Mothers Against Greg Abbott
[link removed]
The grassroots political movement that sprouted up among fear and frustration of gun violence, went into high gear in 2022. Specifically with a media campaign emphasizing the failure of Texas policies. If you recall any TV ad from the past election, it was likely an ad from Mothers Against Greg Abbott—a mother dressing her kid up for the first day of school in combat gear ([link removed]) , or a doctor giving a pregnancy exam to a 12-year-old girl ([link removed]) . There are many groups that pop up each year, Mothers Against Greg Abbott found a way to re-frame “MAGA” and make a splash in the 2022 election cycle.
WOW! It’s such an honor to be recognized by Progress Texas for our collective work. And we can’t wait to show everyone what Mothers Against Greg Abbott has planned for 2023 . . .
** Chapter Leaders Assemble!
------------------------------------------------------------
While we were excited by the midterm results nationally, the results here in Texas were disappointing to say the least . . . But there’s another election right around the corner and mothers and others like us are mobilizing to be the difference.
We held an in-person chapter leader meeting on Dec 7th to discuss our plans for 2023. We had great representation from our Austin, DFW, East Texas, Hill Country, and San Antonio chapters and our fight for Texas families is picking up steam!
While we’ve been meeting regularly over Zoom, this was the first time many of us met each other. It was truly a joy to meet everyone in person, but we still maintained our focus!
Here are our focus areas for 2023:
* Supporting and expanding our chapter structure
* Identifying and expanding precinct chairs within our membership
* Initiating a billboard campaign to hold Texas GOP accountable
* Impacting the 2023 Legislative Session - phone calls, emails, member visits
* Identifying and supporting vulnerable school board races in May, 2023 election
We also enjoyed each others company over dinner & drinks. Thanks to Crystal McLane, Cyndy Dwyer, Sabrina Ball, Tina Barrientos, Hazel Weathers, Rachel Sevener, Sarah Lewis, Madi Eden, and Tricia Gronnevik for joining us. Happy Holidays, team!
** 2023 Legislative Session
------------------------------------------------------------
Knowing that Mothers Against Greg Abbott has big plans for the Legislature this year, several of our team attended the Texas Tribune’s Preview of the 2023 Legislative session on December 8th. We heard from Texas Representatives and Senators on the key issues—the border, public education, health care, taxes, and more. Thanks to the additional team members who joined us, Lee Gaudreau, Allison High and Ann Marie Coyne.
Why is 2023 so important?
The state government has a $27B surplus and our legislators will decide how to spend it this year. MAGA the Good has a golden opportunity to impact all of our families and make sure our legislature makes the right choices.
We intend to make the Texas GOP uncomfortable and accountable this session!
Texas Republicans don’t have Texas families’ best interests at heart—especially when it comes to education. And their plan when it comes to school vouchers would be devastating to public education.
So why do Texas Republicans want our schools to fail? Our state has the 9th largest economy in the world—so this isn’t about the money. It’s time we invested in our childrens’ future and made Texas public schools great again. Join us to hold the #TXLege accountable.
