Dear << Test First Name >>,

This December, NeW is celebrating our record impact. As 2022 comes to a close, I wanted to share 10 of this year’s highlights and the difference we are making on campus.

1. Empowering Book Clubs

The NeW Book Clubs featured discussions with top conservative women such as Nikki Haley, former United States Ambassador to the United Nations and Governor of South Carolina; Kayleigh McEnany, former White House Press Secretary and Host on Fox News; and Naomi Schaefer Riley, Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. Through these programs, NeW college and professional network members, along with friends of NeW, gained leadership advice and mentorship.

2. Equipping Conservative Women Leaders at Leadership Retreat

More than 70 NeW Chapter Leaders gathered in Austin, Texas for our annual NeW Leadership Retreat to prepare to effectively bring conservatism to campus in the upcoming semester. Attendees heard from private and nonprofit sector leaders who equipped them with the skills they need to advocate for themselves, step into leadership roles, and influence change in their communities. The leaders also attended workshops on hosting events, received media training, and made connections with conservative women from across the country.

3. Redefining the Narrative in the News

NeW was featured in more than 50 media outlets throughout the year with op-eds written by Student Media Fellows, interviews of students and NeW Members, and op-eds written by Karin Lips, President of NeW.

One particular win this year was when Franchetta Groves, NeW Student Media Fellow, had two op-eds published by CNN providing her perspective on the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs v. Women’s Health Supreme Court decision.

4. Celebrating our Stellar Seniors

NeW celebrated our largest graduating class of more than 50 seniors across the country. We are proud of our NeW alumnae who are now working at Fox News, Independent Women’s Forum, Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital, and Targeted Victory, attending law school, and more.

5. Providing Professional Development Training

During this year’s Professional Development Week, women received mentorship and leadership development advice across our social media platforms and through four live events that were added as a part of the week’s programming.

NeW hosted Stephanie Keaveny, Network Engagement Manager at Talent Market, for a resume and LinkedIn workshop. Colleen Harmon, Director of the Young Leaders Program at The Heritage Foundation, and Morgan Rako, Chief Operating Officer for College to Congress, joined us for a panel on making the most out of your internship. Patricia Rausch, Vice President of Member Programs at the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors, spoke to our women about handling themselves professionally following the pandemic. The last event of the week featured Kristin Underwood, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Fund for American Studies, who spoke about setting boundaries to avoid burnout.

6. Bringing Intellectual Diversity to Campus

NeW is proud to present a different intellectual perspective that is lacking on college campuses today. Students benefit from hearing conservative speakers on campus and having policy discussions with women who are experts in their fields. Here are some speaker highlights from this year.

  • NeW at American University brought together conservatives on campus for a discussion with Winsome Earle-Sears, Lieutenant Governor of Virginia.

  • Kayleigh McEnany, former White House Press Secretary and Host on Fox News, spoke to NeW at the University of Florida about her career experience in the White House and beyond.

  • Allie Stuckey, Author of You’re Not Enough (And That’s Okay): Escaping the Toxic Culture of Self-Love, Host of the “Relatable” podcast, and Fox News Contributor, visited NeW at Florida State University for a discussion about being confident conservatives on campus.

  • Judge Jeanine Pirro, former New York State Judge, Prosecutor, and Host on Fox News, encouraged women from NeW at the University of South Florida to stand strong as conservative women.

7. Creating Community for NeW Chapters

Conservative women students on campus often feel lonely. NeW provides a community for them, locally, regionally, and nationally. In March, chapters in the Washington, DC area had the opportunity to tour Mount Vernon, home to President George Washington, to learn about his leadership.

This fall, NeW chapters in Virginia visited Monticello, home to President Thomas Jefferson, for a tour of the home and grounds. Both experiences gave women a chance to connect with other conservatives in their region and learn how to be even more effective leaders on campus.

8. Honoring Chivalry with The Gentlemen Showcase

NeW is proud of our annual Gentlemen Showcase which honors young men who demonstrate service, kindness, and respect. NeW named Scott Walker, former Governor of Wisconsin and President of Young America’s Foundation, as the 2022 Honorary Gentleman.

The women from NeW at Grand Canyon University nominated Riley McCaugh who was selected as the 2022 Gentleman of the Year. More than 100 young men were nominated, and he won for his commitment to service, remarkable chivalry, and dedication to promoting conservative values on campus.

9. Giving Conservative Women a Voice in the Media

The 2022 Lead Like a Lady Essay Contest celebrated female leadership and ways that women across the country positively impact our country. We were thrilled to co-host the contest with the Washington Examiner again this year. The contest received more than 300 submissions.

Maya Tharoo, College Category Winner from Washington University in St. Louis, was published in the Washington Examiner, and Ashley Landin, High School Category winner from Judson Early College Academy, was published in Lone Conservative

10. Educating Interns at Capitol Hill Intern Summit

We hosted our Capitol Hill Intern Summit on October 26 at the Capitol Hill Club for 45 interns. Attendees from around Washington, DC heard from Sarah Parshall Perry, Senior Legal Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, on the impact of recent Supreme Court Cases on the midterm elections. The women also enjoyed a professional development panel with Natalie Joyce, Deputy Chief of Staff for Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, and Parker Poling, Partner at Harbinger Strategies, which focused on finding success on Capitol Hill and strategies for how to pursue a work-life balance.

We are proud of the impact we have made this year. Thank you for your continued friendship with our organization.

Best wishes,

Kathryn Alford

NeW on Campus
NeW celebrates ConSERvative Month throughout November. During this time, our members participate in service on campus and in their communities. On November 5, NeW at James Madison University decorated and delivered cupcakes to thank their local law enforcement community.
Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL) visited NeW at Catholic University on November 15 to share her story of going from homelessness to becoming a Member of Congress. Her inspiring life story encouraged attendees that they can rise above challenges and do great things.
On November 15, Christina Sandefur, Executive Vice President at the Goldwater Institute and NeW Advisory Board Member, visited NeW at the University of Arizona to speak on the benefits of freedom and capitalism.
On November 21, NeW at Christendom College hosted a panel discussion on how to land a summer internship or professional job.
