Big Tech’s campaign to silence PragerU never sleeps. Last year video hosting
company JW Player refused to renew our contract to host videos—on PragerU’s own
website!
Later, we found out who was responsible for JW Player dropping PragerU as a
client...online “fact-checker” NewsGuard.
NewsGuard calls itself “The Internet Trust Tool.” It supposedly rates news
websites for credibility and transparency. Even though PragerU is an
educational nonprofit—not a news website—NewsGuard rated us anyway!

Upon learning of our abysmal rating that led to JW Player dropping PragerU as
a client, PragerU CEO Marissa Streit contacted NewsGuard.
"I am writing today to bring your attention to an urgent matter that I assume
is a mistake by NewsGuard. Sadly, this mistake is damaging PragerU's reputation
and costing our nonprofit millions of dollars."

Marissa spoke with NewsGuard executive Eric Effron. He assured her that
NewsGuard is unbiased and protects Americans from disinformation. Curiously,
Eric didn’t seem to know much about PragerU (even though NewsGuard had already
given us a bad rating).
Over the next month, NewsGuard asked PragerU questions under the guise of
improving our score. NewsGuard inquired about everything from why we don’t
publish our donors’ names (which we would NEVER do) to our perspectives on
COVID-19 and Planned Parenthood. Regardless of the facts and sources PragerU
provided, our score wasn’t changed. They never intended to be fair.
Clearly, NewsGuard simply thinks our values and ideas shouldn’t exist online.
