BPC’s Akabas: SECURE Act Offers Millions of Americans Greater Retirement Security

In December, Congress took a significant step toward improving Americans’ retirement security by including the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act in the bipartisan budget deal that was signed by President Trump. Several provisions in the SECURE Act are based on recommendations from BPC’s Commission on Retirement Security and Personal Savings. Read BPC’s full statement here.

Meet Our New Team Members!

Ben Gitis Ben Gitis is a new senior policy analyst for BPC’s Economic Policy Project. Before joining BPC, he was deputy policy director on the team that helped Howard Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks, consider an independent run for President of the United States. Before that, he was director of labor market policy at the American Action Forum, where he researched and wrote about issues including paid family leave, the opioid crisis, the minimum wage, and immigration. Gitis was also previously a member of the American Enterprise Institute-Brookings Institution Working Group on Paid Family Leave. Read Ben’s full bio here.

 

Nicko Gladstone Nicko Gladstone is a new research analyst with BPC’s Economic Policy Project. Prior to joining BPC, he worked in the Labor Markets Section of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, where he assisted with the staff forecast of the labor market and contributed to briefings and memos informing the FOMC on labor market issues. He also handled a research portfolio including opioids, educational attainment, and the spatial dynamics of the labor market. Read Nicko’s full bio here.
