Hi friend,

I wanted to give you a quick update about the progress California has made in 2022 towards a clean energy economy, what needs to be done next, and how you can help!

We accomplished some massive wins this year:

WIN #1
In 2022, the California Energy Commission adopted historic offshore wind goals that can power around 25 million homes.

WIN #2
The state budget will invest hundreds of millions into offshore wind, community resilience centers, and clean energy transmission projects.

WIN #3
Bills passed in the California Legislature that will codify carbon neutrality by 2045, set an 85% direct emissions reduction target, make community solar more affordable, and set more aggressive targets to bring renewable energy online faster so we have a clean, reliable grid..

However, there were also some important bills that did not pass:

SB 260: EnviroVoter’s sponsored bill, the Climate Corporate Accountability Act
AB 2133: Would have accelerated targets for our state’s greenhouse gas emissions
SB 1173: Would have divested from fossil fuels for the state’s pension programs

Remember the Policy Roadmap we released earlier this year, ? Clean energy economy is one of the seven core interconnected policy areas in our Policy Roadmap that must be addressed to stop the climate crisis and build a cleaner, more resilient and just future.

Next year, we will be focusing big on the areas where California didn’t make as much progress, but need your help to do it.

With the help of volunteers who make calls, show up to events, and show they care, we can make real progress around building power and support for transitioning to a clean energy economy and holding corporations accountable. So if you want to join us in transitioning to a clean energy economy, sign up here to learn about new volunteering opportunities >> [link removed]

We’re looking forward to fighting with you as we realize the vision of a climate-safe future. Our accomplishments towards a clean energy economy have been huge this past year, and we must ensure 2022 becomes the new norm for the next decade.

Thank you.
