We long for the day where we can stop paying attention to the terrible things Donald Trump says, but he still wields too much influence and presents too much of a danger for us to take our eyes off of him.
Take his recent statement calling for the “termination” of the Constitution to allow him to be reinstated as President. It’s mind-boggling, but it’s also frightening. We’ve seen the lengths Trump will go to try to hold on to power in blatant disregard of our Constitution and laws. He incited and tried to lead an insurrection on January 6, 2021.
And now his unlawful power grab is inspiring other MAGA zealots across the country, like Kari Lake in Arizona, who refuses to concede the governor’s race to Democratic winner Katie Hobbs even after the state certified Hobbs’ victory.
Couple Trump’s dangerous rhetoric with his penchant for dining with white supremacists and anti-Semites, and you have a truly troubling recipe for authoritarianism. Warning bells should be going off for everyone.
