John, End of Year is only 16 days away and right now, we have an incredible opportunity to support bold progressives up and down the ballot who will fight for our most basic fundamental values. Our candidates have to constantly fundraise to keep up with privileged opponents, and 2023 is no different. But we need to raise $16,468 to hit our critical goal. Can you chip in $27 to help us close the gap? >>
When I ran for Congress, I was at a huge disadvantage when it came to fundraising as a young Muslim woman and non-white candidate. We have to work twice as hard as male candidates to get half as much.
Let me explain why fundraising is so difficult for candidates like me:
- People discredit young, new faces in politics – even if they have years of experience as activists or elected officials.
- People say people of color are not “electable” because of our identities.
- Young progressives candidates are sticking to our values and not taking dark money, putting us at a disadvantage next to corporate-funded candidates.
But John, just because the barriers are stacked against these groundbreaking candidates like they were for me, doesn’t mean that we can’t succeed.
Right now, we have the opportunity to get behind strong, diverse progressive candidates all across the South who deserve a chance to lead to create a brighter future for all.
I’m proud to use my platform to elevate marginalized voices and help elect bold, progressive candidates up and down the ballot who are fighting for working families. Can you please chip in $27 to join me in this fight to support this grassroots movement we’ve created >>
Thank you,
Nida Allam
