LEAP's Year in Review: 2022 Impact Report

John,

Reflecting on 2022, we cannot talk about our impact without highlighting what it means when a major philanthropist invests generously in the work of the Law Enforcement Action Partnership. This Spring, we were humbled and honored to be one of the recipients of a donation from Mackenzie Scott, at an unprecedented level of support for LEAP.

Such an investment validates not only our vision for a more equitable justice system and the years we’ve put into drug policy and justice reform advocacy, but the work of our many outstanding partners – longtime allies in the drug policy and justice reform space, who we have worked alongside in the trenches, building this movement and creating this momentum.

Ms. Scott’s donation enabled us to bring on additional staff to help us grow programs like our Community Responder Model, which have an impact on communities all over the country. We recognize the great responsibility that comes with an investment of this magnitude. We know the best way to show our deep appreciation is to continue meeting the challenges of our mission to transform the current criminal justice system into a new system, one rooted in accountability, transparency, and compassion.

This remarkable investment also directly impacts you, our supporters. It means that you are being heard, and that what matters to you and your communities also matters to major philanthropists. Together we can all drive real, evidence-based solutions forward at a greater rate of speed.

LEAP is committed to more practical and compassionate drug policy, and to transforming the justice system. Our partners share this commitment. You, our ardent supporters, are committed, and now we know that our commitment is shared by major philanthropists as well. The investment made by MacKenzie Scott extends so far beyond LEAP, into communities across the country and around the world. Together, we can do extraordinary things. Here is your chance to stand with LEAP, all of our partners, and Mackenzie Scott.

Ms. Scott’s contribution amplifies our message of shrinking the footprint of policing and building community trust. It is an incredible vote of confidence, and LEAP is the right organization to carry the work forward into a sustained movement, advocating for policies that will truly make our communities safer and our justice system more equitable – creating lasting, impactful change.

Looking forward, we know how much farther we have to go, and we know that with your continued support and partnership, we will succeed in creating a justice system that is truly just.

In solidarity,
The LEAP Team

Lt. Diane Goldstein (Ret.)
