THE WEEK'S BIG 3
The FBI released data Monday that showed a drop in hate crimes nationally in 2021, but the annual effort to monitor bias attacks was undercut by a major decline in the number of local law enforcement agencies that reported their totals. The Jewish community observed two solemn anniversaries this week, commemorating the lives lost to antisemitic attacks in Jersey City and Monsey. Antisemitic incidents on campuses are increasing and threats to Jewish institutions remain at alarming levels, according to new ADL research.
Read on for more on these headlines, news you can use to fight hate and the latest info about ADL from around the country.

Latest FBI Data on Hate Crimes Plagued by Lack of Reporting Nationwide
“Thousands of jurisdictions failed to report crime data under the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), which federal authorities have phased into operation since 2016 in hopes of gaining more granular crime data. This year, the FBI moved to a NIBRS-only reporting system, and 11,883 of 18,812 law enforcement agencies submitted data that was included in the hate-crimes report, authorities said.” The Washington Post:

Tri-State Area Jewish Community Commemorates Two Solemn Anniversaries
“A candlelight memorial was held on the steps of Jersey City's city hall on Thursday to remember the victims of the 2019 shooting attack on a kosher grocery store which left four people dead along with the two attackers… "We've got to stand shoulder to shoulder," AG James told those gathered at Ramapo Town Hall to commemorate the machete attack on a Hanukkah party in a local rabbi's home in Monsey that occurred nearly three years ago.” The Jerusalem Post and Lohud:

Antisemitism Is Rising at Colleges, and Jewish Students Are Facing Growing Hostility
“Hostility, including vandalism, threats and slurs toward Jewish students on college campuses increased more than threefold to 155 incidents in 2021 from 47 in 2014, according to the Anti-Defamation League, a New York-based Jewish civil rights organization which has tracked reports of such behavior since 2014. The group counted 2,717 antisemitic incidents in the U.S. overall last year, up 34% from 2020 and the highest number in its records dating to 1979.” The Wall Street Journal:
