John,
Buried deep in the indictment of disgraced crypto kingpin Sam Bankman-Fried is something you may not have noticed: Bankman-Fried violated federal campaign finance laws by making political donations in other people’s names in what people are calling "one of the biggest financial frauds in American history."
In fact, according to Bankman-Fried himself, if you counted his hidden donations, he would likely be the second or third largest Republican donor in the country.
John, Bankman-Fried was using millions in dirty, dark money to buy influence in politics – and he likely violated the Federal Election Campaign Act doing it. So we want to make sure he’s held accountable.
Dark money doesn’t belong in our politics. At CREW, we’re fighting to get dark money out of politics, and we’re making sure that anyone who tries to skirt the law is held to account. Chip in to support our efforts →
HuffPost: Sam Bankman-Fried’s Admission About Secret GOP Donations Provoke An FEC Complaint
Last week, before the indictment, we had already filed a complaint with the FEC — and called for an investigation into the unnamed groups he used to make his donations.
Bankman-Fried admitted that he intentionally structured his donations to evade public reporting. He hid these multi-million-dollar donations by contributing to dark money groups that can spend unlimited money to influence elections and are not required under federal law to disclose the names of their donors.
Shady billionaires like Bankman-Fried and dark money groups are corrupting our electoral system.
CREW is fighting back. And we’re relying on grassroots support to continue our work. If you can, please make a donation of any amount to help us get dark money out of politics →
Thank you,
