A Place to Call "Home"

  Male cooking Spaghetti

Derick, who had been experiencing homelessness for over a year, lived at the Adult Shelter.

"When you live at a shelter, you miss a lot of things—your own bedroom, privacy, family, friends, your pets. Except for my dog, I missed cooking most of all."

"Don’t get me wrong. Every day I was grateful to have a warm, dry place to call home with three meals a day, a shower, and a place to do my laundry. Still, its not the same as your own space.”

Derick was ready to make important changes in his life, and he did. With support from his caseworker, Derick was able to gain the confidence and practice the skills he needed to take important steps forward.

When you give today, you provide a life-saving temporary home, and you help people transition to permanent housing.

Derick was one of 11 adults who moved into one of our Union Street studio apartments this past summer and continues to receive caseworker support.

“I’m happy. I have my own place, I just started a new job, and I can cook my favorite meal—spaghetti and meatballs. I’m making better friends, and last week, I saw my brother for the first time in three years. Life is good. I appreciate everything everybody did for me.”

Every day, you bring stability to a person’s life, and you break the cycle of homelessness.

You create success stories like Derick’s.

Today, please give as generously as you can. Together, we strengthen our community. Thank you!
