AFSCME Family,
The holidays are a time to gather with loved ones and share stories. As AFSCME members, we know that our union stories are powerful. They remind us not only of the struggles we face while organizing, but also the power we gain when we win.
Do you or a loved one have an organizing story you want to share? Share it now and we may feature it on the AFSCME website.
I faced a lot of challenges when I started out as a nurse in the 1960s — low pay, bad benefits and inconsistent time off, to name a few. After learning that a lot of other registered nurses in Southern California felt the same way, my co-workers and I started organizing to form a union.
It was tough, but it was worth it. We got one of the first contracts with Kaiser Permanente in 1974 and set off an organizing firestorm. I’m sharing this with you, AFSCME family, because my story is a part of our shared AFSCME history — and yours is too. Will you share your story today?
With the holidays right around the corner, there’s no better time to ask your loved ones if they have an organizing story to share with us. Will you share your story with us today?
In Solidarity,
Sonia Moseley
