Dear Friend,
Welcome to the second part of our quarterly newsletter. We hope that you enjoyed reading and learning about our community needs and how Adhikaar is addressing them.
As a leader in the fight for TPS, we have been advocating for Nepali TPS holders both at local and national levels. With an original TPS expiration of Dec 31st, 2022, it was a precarious time as we received countless inquiries from our members across the country who were at risk of losing their status and vulnerable to deportation, loss of health care, and valid work permits.
|
Adhikaar, along with our partner organizations, continued fighting for the Ramos/Bhattarai lawsuit which was filed by TPS holders and U.S. citizen children of TPS holders to stop the unlawful termination of TPS status for over 100,000 TPS holders. We organized our members by holding biweekly national members meetings, conducted spokesperson trainings, and took action. After months of collective organizing, on November 10, 2022, the Department of Homeland/USCIS announced an automatic 18-month extension of TPS for El Salvador, Honduras, Haiti, Nicaragua, Nepal, and Sudan through June 30, 2024.
