John - In an effort to tackle one of the more pervasive and aggressive issues in the rural south, Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia has sponsored the Rural Opioid Abuse Prevention Act.

This legislation would direct resources to rural communities devastated by opioid dependence and overdose. This act works as an amendment to a 1968 act, that works to target crime and drug use, known as the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968.

While this act would work to the benefit of the entire country, the south has been particularly vulnerable to the opioid epidemic.

In aligning with a commitment to rural communities, we applaud this effort by Senator Ossoff to curtail some of the damage that has been done, and the desire to move forward with more accessible care for those struggling with addiction. While a very nuanced and complex issue, we believe that those dealing with substance abuse disorder deserve the treatment and medical access that they need in order to move forward and live healthier lives.

Thank you, Senator Ossoff for delivering to rural and working-class communities across the country and for seeking a better tomorrow for all of us. To help keep our country moving forward, consider chipping in your support today so we can continue to organize and win across America's heartland!
