Dear Friends and Allies,
Wow! You are amazing! This year’s Give to the Max Day raised more than $48,500, just short of our record. A big THANK YOU to everyone who made this possible, from our amazing development team to all of you who contributed to support our continuing work.
Give to the Max Day closely followed another amazing day: On November 8, citizens across the nation voted in favor of equality, diversity, and opportunity.
Here in Minnesota, a number of first- and second generation immigrant candidates won election, and ILCM and our partners are now gearing up to push for welcoming legislation, including Driver’s Licenses for All! Massachusetts voters affirmed their state’s adoption of Driver’s License for All, and we are determined for Minnesota to join Massachusetts and other states in ensuring that anyone who can pass the driver’s test, pay the fee, and obtain insurance can obtain a driver’s license.
At the national level, the next big challenge is getting protection for Dreamers passed by the U.S. Senate before the end of the year. In 2021, the House of Representatives passed legislation that received bipartisan support to provide permanent solutions for Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and the agricultural workforce. In 2023, it is unlikely that these measures will get a vote in the House. Congress must act NOW, in December, to pass this crucial legislation.
Once again, thank you for your support throughout this year. Together, we will move forward to meet the challenges of 2023. As Minnesota’s own Ricardo Levins Morales tells us, another world is possible—and it’s up to us to make it happen.
In solidarity,
