John, I have big news: The Virginia Values Act was just filed in the General Assembly! Now it’s up to us to make some noise. Contact your Delegate and Senator today and urge them to support LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections in our Commonwealth. With powerful support from leadership for this bill and a General Assembly that includes more pro-LGBTQ lawmakers than ever, we have more than a fighting chance to pass it—this year is the year we’ll get it done! It’s time to create a Virginia that reflects our shared values of fairness, dignity, and respect. The way things stand, LGBTQ Virginians can still be fired, evicted, or denied service in public spaces like restaurants and shops, just for being themselves. And Virginia is one of only five states with no protections for anyone in public spaces, meaning the Virginia Values Act (Senate Bill 868) will better protect all Virginians. Passing the Virginia Values Act will move our laws into the 21st century and make us the first state in the South to pass statewide legislation that protects LGBTQ people from discrimination in their daily lives. Make sure your lawmaker supports the Virginia Values Act today. John, I’m emailing you today because the Virginia Values Act has the power to change the lives of LGBTQ Virginians forever. We have to win this year. Sincerely, Vee Lamneck Executive Director, Equality VA PS: If you’re looking to take the next step, join us at our Crowd the Capitol lobby days to speak up for the Virginia Values Act in person!
