Here at Reveal, we’d been preparing for the Supreme Court decision striking down Roe v. Wade. That’s why, long before the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, we began investigating a trend we’d spotted: growing harassment and violence outside abortion clinics.

We had a hunch that this could become an even bigger issue if Roe was struck down. There would be fewer clinics in fewer states for protesters to target.

But this wasn’t going to be an easy story to tell. We zeroed in on Florida because the state has 55 abortion clinics, more than seven other Southeastern states combined. That meant we had to file public records requests with more than 30 law enforcement agencies across the state. Some took months to respond.

Fueled by your support, we persevered, and with repeated phone calls and emails, we obtained the information we needed to tell this story.

Because of this reporting, law enforcement has sprung into action to provide more protections.

And now I’m taking what I learned and sharing it, preparing to train some of the 1,200 local reporters in our Reveal Reporting Network, so they can do similar stories in their communities.

This is what sets Reveal apart. We persevere. We invest the time and resources necessary to do the job right. We don’t just report our stories and walk away. We make sure local communities across the country are equipped with the tools to take on these threats in their backyards.
