Why are more Black families embracing home education? Homeschooling rates doubled during the pandemic, according to the latest Census Bureau data. The jump was much higher for Black families. The families who spoke with reporter Lajja Mistry listed numerous reasons. Bullying. Religious considerations. Teacher churn. White-washed curricula. No matter what drove them to convert their homes to classrooms, some Black parents see the shift to homeschooling as a life-changer for their kids.
