Iran Ousted from UN’s Women’s Rights Council

It took them long enough. Bloomberg: The United Nations’ 45-member Commission on the Status of Women ejected Iran from the body in response to the country’s deadly crackdown on nationwide anti-government protests. Some 29 countries voted in favor of a motion to remove Iran from the commission while eight countries, including China and Russia, voted against the move on Wednesday (Bloomberg).

Fed Raises Interest Rate by .5 Percent, Implies More to Come in 2023
Wall Street Journal: The Federal Reserve approved an interest-rate increase of 0.5 percentage point and signaled plans to keep raising rates at its next few meetings to combat high inflation. The decision Wednesday marked a step down after four consecutive larger increases of 0.75 point and raised the benchmark federal-funds rate to a range between 4.25% and 4.5%, a 15-year high. Most officials penciled in plans to raise the rate to between 5% and 5.5% next year, with the median projection implying a further 0.75 percentage point in rate rises (Wall Street Journal). The Dow fell 142 points after the announcement (CNBC).

Governor Newsom Urges Biden to Halt Revoking Title 42
It is about time he recognizes the problems at the border. Townhall: Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) is warning California that the state could “break” amid President Joe Biden’s decision to reverse Title 42, which allows police and border officers to expedite the expulsion of illegal immigrants. The Biden Administration is planning to reverse the Trump-era policy, which Newsom says would cause a huge flow of illegal migrants to enter the state through the southern border (Townhall). Charlie Kirk: Even Gavin Newsom is warning that the US immigration system is “about to break”. Thanks for saying something, Gavin, but with 2.5 million border crossings this year, it’s already beyond broken. Rescinding Title 42 will devastate America. God help us (Twitter).

MSNBC on Border: “tragic humanitarian crisis”
Daily Caller: MSNBC anchor José Diaz-Balart on Wednesday criticized the White House’s lack of “urgency” and “outrage” toward the ongoing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. President Joe Biden’s administration is set to end the Title 42, a Trump-era COVID-19 protocol allowing for the expulsion of migrants to prevent the spread of the virus, despite migrant encounters hitting record levels during 2022 fiscal year. As Diaz-Balart spoke, live footage from MSNBC showed a long line of migrants lining up along the border fence as they awaited entry into the U.S. in the frigid cold without substantial resources (Daily Caller). RNC Research: MSNBC reports from the border: An “unsustainable” and “tragic humanitarian crisis” (Twitter). Fox News: Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, urged President Joe Biden to “just show up” to the U.S.-Mexico border which he insisted is “going to be overwhelmed” with an influx of migrants once Title 42 is lifted. He admitted he “doesn’t know why” Biden and his officials “keep avoiding the border” (Fox News).

Putin Sets Up Nuclear Missile in Silo Capable of Reaching US, UK
New York Post: Russian tyrant Vladimir Putin has reasserted his nuclear threat against the West by appearing to prepare for combat use a massive nuclear missile that is capable of hitting both the US and UK. Footage released Wednesday shows the installation of a massive Russian Yars rocket into a silo at the Kozelsk military compound in the Kaluga region southwest of Moscow. The intercontinental ballistic missile has a range of 7,500 miles and was installed in a silo launch pad using a special transport and loading unit. The Yars missile complex has a capacity “12 times greater than the American bomb that destroyed Hiroshima,” Russian newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda reported (New York Post). Daily Mail: Russia, whose nuclear sabre-rattling has been a constant tactic since the invasion began as a means to intimidate the west, is building up to more nuclear showboating as it marks the annual Strategic Missile Forces Day on December 17 (Daily Mail).

US Space Force Creates Unit in South Korea
Associated Press: The U.S. military formally launched a space force unit in South Korea on Wednesday, its first such facility on foreign territory that will likely enable Washington to better monitor its rivals North Korea, China and Russia. The activation of the U.S. Space Forces Korea at Osan Air Base near Seoul came after North Korea test-fired a barrage of nuclear-capable ballistic missiles designed to strike the U.S. mainland and its allies South Korea and Japan in recent months (Associated Press). Three More States Move to Ban TikTok While Sen. Rubio Seeks to Ban the Chinese App Outright
Daily Wire: Three more governors are joining the growing number of states banning employees from using TikTok on state-owned devices. In separate orders announced Tuesday and Wednesday, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, and Alabama Governor Kay Ivey all prohibited state employees from using the Chinese-owned social media app on devices owned by the state. The three states are the latest to ban the app, following similar moves already made by a half-dozen other states, and bipartisan legislation to ban TikTok in Congress (Daily Wire). Marco Rubio: The Communist government of #China can access the private data of any American using tiktok_us  any time they want Tik Tok should be banned (Twitter).

Washington Post Announces Additional Layoffs for Q1 of 2023
National Review: The Washington Post is expected to execute more layoffs in the new year after suffering a massive loss of subscribers in 2022. Publisher Fred Ryan announced the dismissals at a company town hall Wednesday. The layoffs will happen in the first quarter of 2023 and will make up a “single-digit percentage” of the current staff, Ryan said, without specifying the number of employees who would be terminated (National Review). Peru Declares State of Emergency Due to Violent Protests
Reuters: Peru’s defense minister announced a nationwide state of emergency on Wednesday, which will take effect in the next few hours and allow soldiers to assist police in maintaining public safety after a week of fiery protests and road blockades. The protests were sparked by the ousting of former President Pedro Castillo on Dec. 7 in an impeachment vote. Castillo, a leftist elected in 2021, was arrested after illegally trying to dissolve the Andean nation’s Congress, the latest in a series of political crises the world’s second-largest copper producer has faced in recent years (Reuters). Associated Press: The declaration includes the suspension of the rights of “personal security and freedom,” including the rights of assembly and freedom of movement. Authorities also will be able to search people’s homes without permission or judicial order. Otarola said the government has not determined whether a curfew will be imposed (Associated Press).

NBA Coach Prays for Fellow Coach After Game
Christian Headlines: A social media video depicting a well-known NBA coach praying with a colleague on national television is going viral for what it depicts: A Christian leader comforting a friend in his loss. The video shows Phoenix coach Monty Williams shaking hands and speaking to Houston’s Stephen Silas on the court seconds after Silas’ team won 111-97. Silas’ father, former NBA player and coach Paul Silas, passed away three days prior to the game (Christian Headlines).
