Wildlife and Nature Reserves

Would you like to volunteer with us? Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, visit sites you've not been to before, get some exercise and see lots of different wildlife! We have session on most Wednesdays and joint sessions with NWT City Local Group on the first Saturday of the month.

All sessions start at 10am and usually last until 2pm. Please wear suitable work clothing and bring waterproofs, a packed lunch and something to drink. A flask for hot drinks will be available. There are no facilities on these sites, so bring everything you need with you. We will provide all tools and equipment needed and it is free to come along!

Wednesday 15th January 2020, 10am ? 2pm Moorbridge Pond NG6 8QS Moor Bridge Pond Local Nature Reserve is part of a bigger site which includes Springfield Corner. We'll be carrying out some vegetation removal from the banks and making habitat piles from the brash. Meet at the entrance off Bestwood Road, near the junction with Hucknall Road. The ground is sloping with some uneven places. Bus NCT 79/79A stop at Bestwood Road or TB 141 Moorbridge Ponds. Wednesday 22^nd January 2020, 10am ? 2pm.

Quarry Holes Nature Reserve, Aspley NG8 6EQ

This reserve is the remnants of a quarry and has a mix of woodland, meadow and scrub. The steep banks have an interesting mix of wildflower that attract plenty on insects especially butterflies & bees in the summer months.

We will be continuing some of the scrub work started in November along with some woodland management.

Bulwell Hall Park NG6 8LF

A large part of Bulwell Hall Park is designated as a Local Nature Reserve. This includes Home Wood which run along the northern edge, the lakes and meadows. The meadows are important Magnesium Limestone grasslands, which are a UK and Nottinghamshire Priority Habitat.

Home Wood is a mixed ash, oak and sycamore woodland with a few specimen trees including beech throughout it indicating remnants of the former gardens. We will be clearing some of the invasive snowberry that has come to dominate parts of the Home Wood.

Bus Local 14 stops at the Norwich Gardens entrance near the Bulwell Toy Library. NCT 79/79A stop at Lawton Drive. You will then have to walk either along the main drive or across the park to the Golf Club.
