Entering the Home Stretch in DC 

The Washington, DC City Council held its first of two final votes on the DC Domestic Workers Bill of Rights and the Council was unanimous in its support of the bill!

Our domestic worker leaders waited at the council for almost 10 HOURS to hear this vote on their long fought for bill…and it was worth the wait.

The next and final step to winning this law is a second vote in the DC Council. That vote will be held on Tuesday December 20th. If you live in DC and want to learn about ways you can engage with us after the final vote, sign up to learn more.

Making History in Georgia…Again

The voter turnout we witnessed in the Georgia runoff election earlier this month was completely unprecedented. But making history in Georgia again didn’t come easily.

Luckily, our team, fueled by donations from supporters like you, had an intensive organizing program ready to go after the midterm elections. Together with our partners, we were able to knock on doors and reach voters in every major Georgia county. 

The hard work — and it was hard work — paid off. Voters across Georgia showed up to the polls in larger numbers than during the midterm election just weeks before. Once again, we’ve proven that investing in organizing works and is one critical way to win the caring society we all deserve. Our organizers in Georgia have been working around the clock and are just now getting an opportunity to breathe.

As we celebrate all that we have accomplished this year, both locally and nationally, we are also clear-eyed about the work ahead. 

Domestic work is defined by low pay, abuse and sexual harassment, and a lack of worker protections. The nannies, housecleaners, and home care workers who perform this work — most of whom are women of color —  are essential to our lives. They make all other work possible. But they are continually undervalued. Our goal is to continue working until we change that. To keep fighting until all care workers are valued, treated with dignity and offered the pay and benefits they deserve.

Gearing up in New Jersey

Every single day across New Jersey, nannies, housecleaners, and home care workers care for our homes and loved ones; they should be honored for this crucial work with respect, dignity, and proper protections. 

The New Jersey Domestic Worker Bill of Rights is a much-needed step forward to ensure that New Jersey’s domestic workers are protected from discriminations and harassment by not only their employers, but by the state. 

Our team, along with our coalition partners across the state, has been organizing to win these rights since 2019. In 2023, we will ramp up efforts to ensure those rights become reality for all domestic workers in New Jersey. Live in New Jersey and want to get involved? Investing in Childcare in North Carolina

In 2021, North Carolina created a stabilization program for child care centers across the state, using American Rescue Plan Act dollars. This program allowed child care providers to raise wages of workers to a livable wage, pay bonuses for teachers who worked throughout the pandemic, and invest back in children through resources at child care centers.

In 2023, those funds will expire, and many experts in the field are predicting a mass exodus of workers from the field if there isn’t any new investment. If a mass exodus occurs, this will cause a care crisis in the state and affect workers across industries.

This fiscal year, North Carolina has $4.2 billion MORE in revenue than was expected and will have $1.9 billion more in the next fiscal year.
