In Other News ...

There are few resources rarer than attention span. Even the most energetic and dedicated consumer of news can only absorb so much in a given news cycle, or week, or year.

With the U.S. and Iran trading missile shots, impeachment and a presidential race dominating the national ticker, and the governor's State of the State speech leading the New York news, it is easy to miss other stories that, while quieter, are really important, too—especially to the people directly affected by them.

City Limits often does those kinds of quieter stories. But this week our news haul is particularly focused on people whom we might not otherwise think about: Bronx bus riders trying to figure out if they are winners or losers in the route redesign. Young parents raising kids while couch-surfing or in the homeless shelter system. Blind and deaf passengers hoping, like the rest of us, to use the subway to get somewhere safely and on time.

The thing is, even in a metropolis as large as New York, chances are you are either part of one of those affected populations or close to someone who is—a neighbor, relative, co-worker or friend. That's who I thought about as I edited these stories. That's who might come to mind as you read them.
