Our national refuges should be places of safety and conservation for our beloved wildlife. Instead, the climate crisis is causing many birds to be pushed out of the places they call home, regardless of whether or not there is a more suitable habitat nearby.

Audubon works to protect birds and the places they need. Generous support from caring people like you powers that important work. We must act now to defend the habitats birds rely on, including climate-vulnerable species like the Tundra Swan. So please, make your donation right away. Thanks to a group of generous donors, your gift will be matched, up to $25,000. ([link removed])

The National Wildlife Refuge System provides one of the United States’ greatest protected area networks for wildlife conservation. Yet new Audubon research finds that if left unchecked, warming temperatures could affect environmental conditions for half of the birds throughout all of the system’s refuges. Some species, like the Tundra Swan, could disappear entirely from the system.
We can safeguard these birds and their habitats—but to do that, we must be unfaltering in our protection. That’s why we hope you’ll take this opportunity to provide for their defense. When you make your donation today, it will be matched 2X, up to $25,000, thanks to a group of generous donors. ([link removed])
Safe places made less safe
The habitats that birds depend on are changing quickly.
Not all birds will be able to adapt.
Two-thirds of North American bird species are at increasing risk of climate extinction.
Because the wildlife refuge system covers a vast array of ecosystems across the country, the consequences for the birds in the refuges tell us a lot about what could be in store for humans if we fail to take action. With support from bird lovers like you, Audubon has made science briefs for all 525 refuges available that detail what species will be climate-vulnerable, and how precipitation and temperature may change in the next 30 years without any preventive action.
But these dangers won’t disappear overnight—which is why it’s so important that we be steadfast in our research, advocacy, and conservation efforts. Right now, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. Make your gift now and make twice the impact. ([link removed])
