Yesterday, President Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act into law, marking a big step forward in the fight for LGBTQ rights.
Under this long overdue law, millions of same-sex and interracial marriages will be protected. Families can rest assured that no matter where they live or who they marry, their marriage will be recognized by the federal government just as other Americans have had for generations.
This law is a victory for civil rights and marriage equality – but our work to ensure full equality for all Americans is not done. Add your name to join me in celebrating this momentous victory and recommit to the fight still ahead:
I have championed civil rights and LGBTQ equality throughout my time in Congress. I’ve cosponsored legislation to include gender identity and sexual orientation in federal civil rights protections, expand protections for LGBTQ victims of domestic violence, and prohibit discrimination in public schools against LGBTQ students.
With looming threats of a Supreme Court poised to roll back Americans’ fundamental rights even further, federal codification of marriage equality has never been more important.
We are celebrating the equality, fairness, and love now protected for millions of couples today, and future generations.
It’s a privilege to support this historic bill to protect the rights of San Diegans and Americans across the country, and I hope you’ll join me in using the momentum of this victory to propel us in our continued fight for full equality. Add your name to our call to action:
Thank you for adding your voice.
