Dear Friend,

[ [link removed] ]The Clock is ticking. Urge the U.S. Senate to pass the Pregnant Workers
Fairness Act (PWFA) this year!

In this current Lame Duck Session of Congress, the U.S. Senate has only 3
weeks left to pass the BIPARTISAN and way overdue Pregnant Worker Fairness
Act before time runs out and we have to start this process all the way
over again.

Honestly, we are SEETHING that this commonsense, and did I mention this
bipartisan legislation hasn’t passed yet - but here we are. We are going
to have to lean hard on our U.S. Senators to get this across the finish
line and we need your help.

Congress might be thinking about heading home for the holidays and
spending time with their loved ones. Do you know what pregnant and
postpartum workers are thinking about? They’re thinking about how they can
remain on the job and continue supporting themselves and their families
without the critical workplace support and accommodations they so
desperately need. They’re thinking about the perilous position they’re in
by having to choose between a healthy pregnancy and a paycheck. And
they’re thinking how can our leaders even think of going home for the
holidays without passing the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act?!

[ [link removed] ]→ Click here and send a quick letter to your U.S. Senators telling them
to get on it and pass the PWFA without further delay!

Here’s the deal: The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act has already passed the
U.S. House with bipartisan support AND it has the votes it needs to pass
the Senate. WE JUST NEED IT TO BE PUT TO A VOTE.

Why do we need the PFWA? Without this vital piece of legislation, pregnant
and postpartum workers will continue to be denied basic support at work
like having a chair or a bottle of water. They’ll continue to encounter
discrimination and the consequences will impact their economic stability
and their health.

Sounds pretty straightforward right?

This is a commonsense policy and in order to protect and prioritize
pregnant and postpartum workers, we need the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act
to pass by the end of this work period. Not in January of 2023 and not in
June of 2023 but by the end of THIS YEAR.

[ [link removed] ]The clock is ticking, Urge the U.S. Senate to pass the Pregnant Workers
Fairness Act this year!

Providing pregnant and postpartum workers with workplace support and
accommodations will help ensure safe and healthy pregnancies. And while it
is generally safe to work during a pregnancy, in some instances a pregnant
worker’s job may pose some risk to their health. Those workers in the
retail and service industry must stand for hours on end and employees in
custodial services may be exposed to toxic chemicals. [1]  One solution is
for pregnant workers to adjust their scope of work temporarily but
employers who deny these modifications and allow pregnant workers to work
without the accommodations they need are putting pregnant workers and the
health of their babies at risk.

As we approach the end of the year, we should remind our Senators and
congressional leaders that passing the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act means
putting women and families first. It means workers won’t be mistreated or
pushed off the job but instead they can remain attached to the workforce
and maintain a healthy pregnancy. It means closing the maternal health gap
for Black pregnant and postpartum workers and it means delivering a win
for pregnant and postpartum workers and their families!

Thanks for everything you do,

- Namatie, Ruth, Kristin, and the whole MomsRising.org & MamásConPoder
Team

P.S. - Did you work while pregnant? Did you need any accommodations?
