California residents deserve affordable housing now. This is why we’ve partnered with our members, the California legislature housing chairs, and the state's largest city mayors to urge federal lawmakers to lower the 50% bond test before the end of the year, a critical reform that could mean an additional $3 billion for affordable housing development throughout the nation! Read the letter:

Big thank you to everyone that signed on to these letters in support of more funding for affordable housing development as we take important steps to get California residents housed!

“YIGBY” is Back! Senator Wiener Announces SB 4

Abram Diaz speaking at a podium

Last week Senator Scott Wiener announced Senate Bill 4, which will provide a streamlined process for religious organizations and nonprofit colleges to develop affordable housing on their property. NPH is proud to co-sponsor SB 4 alongside Southern California Association of Nonprofit Housing (SCANPH) and The Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California (JPAC)

“If a congregation is willing to share their extra land with the community, we should say thank you. If they’re willing to house the homeless, we should say thank you. If a college is willing to put a roof over a low-income family’s head, we should thank them and welcome the opportunity in our community, ” NPH Policy Director Abram Diaz said at the press conference announcing the new legislation.

Help Us Pass SB 4! Use this toolkit to help promote the bill's introduction on Twitter, urging folks in your networks to submit support letters to the California Legislature portal.
