John, a new study
shows that access to paid family leave reduces the likelihood that a woman
leaves her job if her spouse has serious health issues. It’s clear that
California’s paid leave program keeps women from leaving the workforce.

This fall, Katie urged Governor Newsom to sign a bill that will allow
lower income workers to receive 90% of their normal paycheck if they need
to take leave, an increase from the current benefit of 60-70%. We
celebrated when this bill was signed into law, but California is in the
minority. The vast majority of states don’t have any sort of paid family
leave program, which is why Katie has pushed for action at the federal
level.

Paid leave—whether you’re using it to care for a sick family member or to
bond with a new child, doesn’t just benefit families who take leave.
Supporting workers and enabling them to stay in our workforce helps
support a strong, stable, globally competitive economy.
