We are furiously making a last-minute push to get Congress to pass the PRESS Act, which would finally protect journalists from surveillance or the threat of arrest if they don’t reveal their sources.

• Our Advocacy Director Seth Stern and FPF board member John Cusack pushed the powerful Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin to support the PRESS Act in compelling op-eds.

• Sen. Dick Durbin responded in the Chicago Sun-Times. He said he “could not agree with [us] more” and came out in strong support of the bill.

• We called on Sen. Mike Lee to support the PRESS Act in the Salt Lake Tribune and he responded, becoming the lead Republican co-sponsor of the bill. Here’s why all Republicans should support the PRESS Act. 

• We organized nearly 40 press rights and civil liberties organizations to urge Sen. Chuck Schumer to help pass the PRESS Act.
