You know that I am a long-time advocate and fighter for moving states like Michigan up to become early nominating primaries for the Democratic Party. For too long, the nomination process has been influenced by a small handful of states who have a lock on the primary process.
I have been working hard to make this a reality for 30 years because I believe a larger, more diverse state like Michigan should have a strong say in determining the Democratic nominee. We need more states (and states like Michigan) in the early window of the primary process in order to reflect the true diversity of this country.
President Biden agrees and delivered a proposal to make Michigan one of the first several states to hold a nominating primary in 2024. We are one step closer to an early primary becoming a reality, but the fight isn’t over. That’s why I’m reaching out to you today.

We need diverse and competitive states like Michigan to pick a president. Labor, urban, farmers, rural, Black, Muslim-American, Hispanic, and college student voters will have a powerful voice in who becomes the Democratic nominee for future presidential elections.
The road to a Democratic White House needs to run through the heartland, and it’s time to make that happen.
