We learned a lot from talking to voters over the last 11 months on the ground in North Carolina. And we know one thing is true: Candidates and political parties aren't talking to voters about the things they deeply care about.

That’s where we come in. The New North Carolina Project is one of the only organizations on the ground in Black, and Brown communities talking to people about what matters to them and how we can find creative solutions to the problems they experience in their daily lives.

We found that people care the most about 4 main issues:

• Housing
• Economic Mobility
• Public Safety
• Civic Engagement

In 2023 and 2024, we plan to educate and advocate on those issues. Voters did not resonate with the top issues that candidates were talking about in this past election cycle- like voting rights, white supremacist extremism, abortion and more. In order to connect with voters, to educate them, and mobilize them to get involved in local politics- not just at the voting booth- we have to change the way we think and talk about the issues.
