Hi John ,
What a year 2022 turned out to be. If I’m honest, I started the year not feeling a whole lot of hope for this country. The pundits were already talking about what a terrible year this would be for progressive politics and it was hard for me to see a different outcome.
But 2022 surprised me. That people power that we have been building? It showed up and showed OUT. YOU showed up . Our people, BIPOC folks and our allies, led us to victory not only for amazing electoral outcomes, but also for ballot measures to protect our bodily autonomy. We, once again, showed this country what can be achieved when we invest in BIPOC communities, and we have to make SURE that investment continues.
At re:power, that means we’ve been spending the last month dreaming, scheming and planning the best 2023 calendar we can. And we are previewing it here in this email! Read on to see what’s coming up and most importantly, sign up to train with us!

re:cap
Following election day we hit the ground running helping prepare organizers and elected officials across the country build and wield power in 2023. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Progressive Governance Academy
Since election day our Progressive Governance Academy (PGA) has held 7 governance trainings for newly elected progressives in Georgia, California, Oregon and DC. The PGA is a collaborative effort by re:power Fund, State Innovation Exchange (SiX) and Local Progress Impact Lab that trains and supports legislators to build the human and political capital necessary to create bold change for their communities.
Grassroots Organizing: Storytelling Academy
In early December we launched our virtual Storytelling Academy. In this course, participants learned how to harness the power of their personal stories to tap into their personal leadership and help create change in their communities. Our cohort included 36 organizers, campaigners and activists from across the country.
Data x Power
This month we also held our final convening for our Data X Power (DxP) Movement Tech Fellows! The DxP Fellowship is a 10 month program for mid-career data practitioners to solve movement-wide technology problems as they hone their skills. Each year, twelve fellows work in pairs on a project that will address network-wide data and technology issues. They undergo a series of skill-based trainings, receive a mentor, and have access to funding that enables exploration, experimentation and completion of the project.

“Before I was a voting rights organizer, I was a student organizer in college, and I learned to be thoughtfully critical of the institutions around me. re:power taught me how to assess power in order to achieve wins! As I empower Georgia Muslims in my work, I think about how voting, like digital organizing, is a tool in a larger toolbox of things we can and should be doing simultaneously to make change.” [[link removed]]
