Dear Comrade,
It's only Tuesday, and it has already been a doozy of a week.
First, we'd like to invite everyone out to this Saturday afternoon's Winter Solidarity Blast! While many people are winding down for the year, the time to organize your workplace is now, and we want to help. Bring the family, there’s lots to do, including visiting Archie the Snowman, renting ice skates, ice bikes and/or ice bumper cards, putt-putt golf and shuffleboard. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there! Even if you can’t make it to the event, you can support the workers with a holiday gift. If you need help organizing your workplace, use this form.
***White Pond Update ***
After Monday’s absolutely bananas city council meeting, where the final vote to sell was 7-6, the community hit the books, and there might be hope in the City of Akron’s municipal code that requires a two-thirds majority in selling city real estate. Regardless of the outcome, we did the work to turn the vote away from a unanimous rubber stamp. Everyone involved did amazing work to connect with their neighbors and the larger community. We will continue to fight for a better future for the city.
Last night’s city council also took steps to stifle dissent by putting a mandatory minimum jail sentence on those deemed to be menacing public officials. At every level of government, citizens are being pushed out and told that the governing class knows best, but this vague and anti-democratic legislation will not stop us from continuing to work for a better future. Please see our statement against the undemocratic actions from Akron City Council.
