Kia ora I’m Mara, and I’m Selvi,
We're writing to you today to celebrate World Friendship
Day and tell you the story of how, thanks to Labour, we became great
friends and activists.
As strong believers in social justice, we’d both signed up to
volunteer during Labour’s 2017 election campaign. We first met at a
new volunteer night, then we ran into each other at a feminist meet up
- which we guess wasn’t a surprise given our passion for equal rights
- and again at our first Labour phone bank. All of this in the space
of a week!
From then on, we started running phone banks and leading volunteer
door knocks. Our friendship grew, through our shared experience of
being part of Labour, but also through supporting each other to take
on leadership roles and different responsibilities within the
Party.
Being part of a Labour and being able to give a voice to
the values you believe in is really important to us, but it’s the
people you meet and the friendships you form that truly mean the
most.
We remember it was a bit daunting putting your hand up to volunteer
before knowing what to expect (it was for us anyway!). That’s
why to celebrate World Friendship Day- why don’t you and a friend sign
up together to learn more about volunteering?

Or, like us, maybe you’ll meet your future bestie volunteering with
Labour too!

John, have you heard about Labour's Community Action
Network?
Labour's Community Action Network is a grassroots movement made up
of local communities working together to help build election-ready
volunteer teams across New Zealand.
We know that one of the most effective ways to get people to vote
Labour is by locals talking to locals and sharing their personal
stories. That’s what the Community Action Network is about. But to get
our grassroots teams ready for 2020, we need to recruit and train
thousands of volunteers.
To find out more about volunteering in your community, enter your
details below and your local Field Organiser will be in touch with
more info.
