Happy holidays! In honor of Ballotpedia’s 15th Anniversary, we’re excited to welcome you to the 15 Days of Ballotpedia!
Each day, we are celebrating a different part of Ballotpedia’s mission to showcase the ways in which we impact our democracy by educating citizens about politics and policy in a neutral, trustworthy way.
However, as a 501(c)3, our work is not free to produce. We need your help to raise $100,000 this month so we can give all voters the information they need in 2023 and beyond.
Candidate Connection Survey
At Ballotpedia, we believe that everyone deserves meaningful, reliable, and trustworthy information about their candidates. We also know that good information—especially at the local level—is hard to find. That's why Ballotpedia created Candidate Connection.
We first began to experiment with candidate surveys in 2018 in order to help candidates connect with the voters in their districts. We ask federal, state, and local candidates to share what motivates them at both the political and personal level. In 2022, 22.2% of candidates completed our survey. This is compared to 18.9% of candidates in 2020, the last even year, and 7.1% in 2018, the last midterm election year. Not only that, but we received over 6,000 survey responses from candidates in 2022.
Our survey isn’t about “gotcha” questions. Instead, it’s about providing robust information to give voters a more rounded, nuanced, and complete understanding of the people behind the campaign slogans.
The support of subscribers like you enables voters to really get to know their candidates and access the information they need to feel confident when casting their ballots.
Best,
Leslie Graves
