John, the 2022
election results have made it clear that running away from bail reform
clearly is not the way to go.

[ [link removed] ]Which is why we have been fighting so hard to elect District Attorneys
who believe in and have bail reform as a part of their agenda. Can we
count on you to contribute to our End of Year goal to continue our
electoral work in 2023?

Bail reform has been successful and allowed tens of thousands of people to
fight their charges while keeping their jobs and housing and supporting
their loved ones.

It also costs taxpayers less because it means fewer people needlessly
locked in jail. It helps EVERYONE.

And here’s the thing: there's also been no evidence that it's been linked
with more crime, even as Republicans continue repeating this lie.

And we saw the consequences of not supporting bail reform on Election Day
this year.

Instead of championing and defending these successful policies, Democrats
in many areas including New York ran away from bail reform and echoed
Republican lies.

Democrats who repeated this conservative fear-mongering lost their
elections.

Democrats who focused on the successes won their races.

But somehow, national Democrats are now claiming that bail reform is why
Democrats lost in New York and lost their majority in the House — even as
NYC remains one of the safest big cities in the country.

It makes no sense at all.

But as explained by Scott Hechinger, civil rights attorney, and Dyjuan
Tatro, legal reform advocate for NBC: "Democrats lost because they ran
from the truth about bail reform, amplifying lies instead of championing
what should have been their policy win. In short, they made themselves
indistinguishable from Republicans on this topic."

[ [link removed] ]But we intend to keep finding and supporting candidates who are going
to use District Attorney offices to fight for and champion policies to
make sure that people aren’t locked in jail simply because they are poor.
Can you make sure we hit our End of Year goal and can keep up this
critical work in 2023?
